About Babich Wines

The Babich family has been making wine in New Zealand since 1916. With three generations of innovation, achievement and winemaking excellence to draw from it’s comes as no surprise that their wines are regarded as amongst Hawke’s Bay’s finest.

Babich Wines tend diverse plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer across three certified sustainable, estate owned vineyards in the Gimblett Gravels winegrowing district: the Highway 50, Omahu and Irongate vineyards.

Of these, Babich’s Irongate vineyard is undoubtedly one of Gimblett Gravel’s, and New Zealand’s, most famous and well-regarded vineyards. In 1995 this vineyard was the first to be certified as sustainable by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand, and continues to contribute the fruit used in Babich’s most-loved and critically acclaimed wines, including the iconic ‘Irongate’ range, famous for its Chardonnay and red blend, and The Patriarch — their unparalleled flagship Hawke’s Bay red wine.

Babich’s Gimblett Gravels grown wines are sought after in high-end hotels, bars and restaurants around the world, though savvy wine drinkers can occasionally find these wines domestically and via Babich Wines online store.
